SAFETY FIRST: THE STAR TREK EXHIBITION
|
Live Business International (LBI) was awarded the contract to install a comprehensive life safety system in the enormous marquee specially erected in London's Hyde Park at the end of 2002 to house the Star Trek - The Adventure exhibition, whose highlight was a tour of the 'bridge' of the Starship Enterprise.
Although the structure was temporary, a life safety (voice evacuation) system had to be installed to meet British Standards for a permanent building.
LBI's experience at coping with different sets of regulations, applying fixed building regulations to a temporary structure and dealing with complex evacuation strategies added up to a key factor in winning the contract, as well as the company's experience in covering a very large space with minimal equipment.
The system was critically important to people's safety and therefore to the viability of the project, and was required to be installed on a very tight schedule because of the brief interval between the building's construction and the opening of the exhibition to the public.
The system ran without fault throughout the exhibition's run, and apart from a daily test run, happily was never required to perform its duty.
